Your panels produce the most power in the middle of the day. That is also when the house is using the least, because nobody is home, the lights are off, and the heavy loads have not started yet.
Under California’s NEM 3.0 rules, the power you export earns a small fraction of what you pay to buy that same power back. The battery keeps the energy on your property instead of selling it at the lowest price of the day.
From roughly 4 to 9pm, grid power costs the most and your house is using the most. Your home runs on what it stored that morning, at exactly the hour it would otherwise cost you the most to buy.
During an outage or a Public Safety Power Shutoff, the system disconnects from the grid and keeps your backed-up circuits running on stored power. When the sun comes up, your panels recharge the batteries. How much of the house stays on depends on which system you choose.

A solar lender covers the system and you repay them monthly at a fixed rate. That payment is meant to take the place of most of what you currently send to PG&E rather than sit on top of it. You will still get a PG&E bill, since the grid stays connected for nights and cloudy stretches, but a much smaller one.
The difference shows up over time. PG&E rates keep climbing. A fixed payment does not, and when the term ends it stops altogether. What that looks like for your home depends on your usage and the terms you are approved for, which is what the quote is for.
